I did a test flight from LaGuardia to Kennedy in the trusty 880 test bed. This short hop is a beautiful flight for me, since it's around 5 minutes and lets me test ACARS server functionality. DVA2006 has a new mapping feature, that integrates into Google Maps. We already use this to log existing, "legacy" flights.
The neat part is that the ACARS protocol already logs flight data, every 30 seconds. By reading this data from the database and sending it to Google Maps, I can log my entire flight. The curves are a little sharp because we are only logging position every 30 seconds, but you can see the rough edges of the flight.
Here's the URL I use to test: http://dva2006.deltava.org/pirep.cmd?id=0xC4D9
Ignore the ACARS data, but zoom in on Kennedy in Google Maps. Not only did ACARS log what runway I landed on, IT ACCURATELY LOGGED WHICH TAXIWAY I EXITED ON. The possibilities for checkrides are amazing, especially since I can annotate every single data point with a popup, if I wish.
Cheers!

Luke,
When I follow that link I do not get a route line. only the start and stop points. Same if I look at my routes file in my prereps on the dva2006 site.
Cheers,
andrew

WOW, this is awesome! You are really DA man. Thanks for all the improvements and all the time you put in this VA. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you.

That PIREP is a hideous hack, since DVA2006 is not presently capable of accepting a PIREP filed from the ACARS utility. I combined an existing ACARS pirep (from OGG to LAX) with route data from my test flight. This is a really basic proof of concept - but now that it has been done once, there's some really neat opportunties.
Like a map showing all DVA pilots online on VATSIM, IVAO and ACARS all at once. What I'm really exceited over is the notion of checkrides being logged via ACARS - a simple 20 minute flight - with your chief pilot reviewing the ACARS logs via google maps. At each point in the flight, he clicks the track and we get airspeed, altitude, etc.
Cheers!

I guess this is as good a place as any to post a first message......
It's great to see some talented people doin' their thing. Project work in this hobby is one of the things that keep me going. So seeing others' work is especially fun. Heck, I don't even have an ID number yet, but I like the look of things...now and to come with DVA2006.
