No, don't respond here!
Build 9 of DVA2006 is available on the main server. One little feature I have is the "PILOT LOCATIONS" page, which shows you the DVA corporate HQ, as well as the locations of our pilots. Right now, the only one that has been added is me, but I'd appreciate your help in testing this out. It's a fun exercise.
http://golgotha.deltava.org/pilotboard.do
To add your location, log into the DVA2006 site with your name and DVA password and then view the URL above. You'll be able to move a little blue pointer to your location on a Google Map, and then when you're satisfied you can click "Update Location" to save it. It should work, but if it doesn't give me a shout.
And before you ask, there is a built-in privacy feature. The system will automatically randomize your location each time the map is displayed within a 3 mile circle, to prevent your exact location from being displayed. That being said, it's up to you to decide how much privacy you wish to give up. (And if you're under 18, please do me a favor and click on a house in the next subdivision. I think COPA is retarted and our younger pilots are not innocent babes in the woods, but I don't want Alberto Gonzales battering down my door at 3AM becuase I'm getting geolocations from minors.)
Build 9 is looking pretty good. I have a few pesky bugs to iron out, but we are almost feature complete.
Cheers!

Maybe I shouldn't be trying this at 6:00 in the morning, but I can't figure out how to place a little blue pointer at my location. How do I get the pointer on the screen?

Lewis:
I was like you this morning and sat here having a starring contest with the monitor. I final tried simply left clicking on the geographic location I wanted, then clicking the update location key (bottom right on map). That took me to a new page with Lat and Lon. I then again clicked the update location key, and there it was, my location selection, illustrated with the blue marker. try that and see if it works.

Thanks Randy - that did the trick. At first I got to the lat and long page and just hit update, figured it took my settings from the other screen - nope - found out I was in Kansas - LOL - so I realized I had to actually update my location from the lat/lon screen... doh!

Thanks for having problems - in some ways, the problems you encounter are more informative than having everything work OK (although a little less satisfying!). Many UI issues stem from the fact that the author already knows how the component should work and so it is obvious, but it is less so to those using it.
I will update the page to provide some instructions on how to set your location, and I'll eliminate the default location in the middle of the US. Thanks for the feedback!
Cheers!

Luke, what I did was start on the map to find my address, then clicked update location - of course, had I just hit "update" location first, then looked up where I lived, all would have worked out great

Luke: A Suggestion
Of course, you'll be the one to decide how feasible this is. Since there's already a "Midwestern US" or "Eastern US" location thingie (like that technical term!?), why can't the pin start in those generalized areas?

Hi!
I cannot login, it tells me: LOGIN FAILTURE unknown user name. Is this because I'm new?
BTW, I wanted to suggest a feature in the profiles, a Info thing, where the pilot can write somthing about him/her self.
And also make the users profile clickable in the forums, dont now if you can, but I cant.
Awesome site Luke!!!
Thanks!

Jimmi - yes, this is just a test site for now - he is tweaking it - so the data is pulled over every so often... this is why it doesn't recognize you...
no worries though - when DVA2006 goes live, all the data will be moved over

I'm sorry some folks aren't in the DVA2006 database yet. If you look at the DVA2006 home page and the list of newest pilots, those are the last people I've imported. If you're not on that last (or have a higher seniority number), sorry.
My goal is to have DVA2006 come live around Labour Day. This is of course subject to the usual "it's done when it's done" proviso. However, the issue list is open and available, and you can see our progress on things. The web site is almost done, the new ACARS is almost done (it just needs some bulletproofing) and then all that will be left is the revised Fleet Library.
Unlike a lot of software authors, I want to keep all of you as involved participants.
Cheers!

After looking at the pins on the map, I'm wondering if it would have been better to organize a DVA "Meet & Greet" at CVG instead of ATL. Looks a lot more centralized to where everyone is located.
Again, Luke, very cool feature.

It's incredibly strange that the page will display in IE and not Firefox - since I do all of my development and testing in Firefox now, instead of IE. Because of this, most problems surface on the IE side since I don't test with that as much. Check your JavaScript console, Bill - there might be an error there. I'm really grasping at straws since most Google Maps problems I've heard of have been related to errors in my code (which would therefore appear for everyone) or VML rendering errors in IE.
Cheers!

Now that the map has filled up more, I'm thinking I was possibly wrong in thinking that CVG was closer to "center". Maybe each region should have their own "DVA Live and In Person" get-together.
Chris Palmer can put together the SLC one. Don't reserve too big of a table though. The blue pins look pretty scarce on that side of the country. LOL
