On break at college, around 330-430pm EST, I went to log onto DVA Only to have some sort of Web services page come up. It was called "APACHE", had a feather for a logo, and said it was now ready to install on the server system.. VERY odd.. I ahd ppl not at college try as well, only to hit the same thing when they tried to laod the site. Needless to say, it's working now, but what was it?

Our hosting provider had a number of issues today with our application server, as well as the DNS on our database server. We managed to get things mostly running, and hopefully now everything is back to normal.

Knock on wood we'll be fine. I'm investigating backup options and we'll see where we go. System crashes are like plane crashes - they're excellent opportunities to learn and do things differently next time.

This wasn't a load issue, unfortunately. One of the drawbacks of a shared server is that I cannot control what other clients load on the server, and it seemed to blow it up. When it came back, a DNS server was hosed and that screwed us up - even after the servers were online, it was taking 60 seconds to establish a SQL connection and that just killed us.

I don't mind if you pound the stuffing out of our servers. I can remediate and control that, and you're a good programming challenge. The problem we had today was outside my control, and I *hate* those.

The problem actually started late last night/early this morning! I think the last time I tried to access the site was like 1:30 AM EST on 9/13 and that's around the time I noticed a problem.
