I'm retty sure this has been discussed before - but why not allowing multiple pictures in a forum thread?
If not uploading, then at least pointing to a hosted image files on other servers and display them in the forum the same way as it is done on phpBB or on the avsim forums?
This will make posting a series not take up 3 or 4 or 50 threads in the main forum and allow responses to be for the whole series instead of to each pic....

A Collage would be better. Multiple pictures would allow more space to be consumed on the servers. "free to DVA member" servers. Lukes the man :). I believe this also concerns bandwith limitiations with so many DVA members 1000+. Someone else may have more info if u want. Like David or Luke cool

Ok, so don't let uploading pictures to the forum - why does the forum need to host our files when there are so many free options to host pictures.
But let s use some sort of parsing options to view the pictures in the forum - such as the

used in so many other forums.
Because the result here is that people still do series of pictures. But they are spread over multiple threads - they get out of order, responses come for each picture alone, and a flight summary or something with content more advanced then a single picture is impossible.
For example, a series like this -

Cannot be published here directly if it was a delta event.

would it be possible to filter out those with pictures or try and keep all the screenshots in a separate forum? Even for those of us with a fast connection, it can be frustrating to have to pick through 767 landing # 1, 767 landing #2, L1011 departure etc when you just want to read the rest of the channels. I know you can read one channel, but that doesn't really solve the problem because there are interesting discussions going on in general discussion too.

Just make a screenshot forum, and all the pictures are gone from the main.
But right now look at the general forum: Out of 60 threads, 30 has pictures.
Some of these are "part x of x" some jsut a single picture. We don't get to have a real screenshot forum that really allows making nice thing with screenshots. On the other hand, the general forum is full with images...
Why?

There already is a filter that lets you not see screen shots; and there is a seperate "channel" that lets you view only them.

But there's no option to put 2, 3, 15, 500 in a thread. And we get lots of threads with "1 of 4" , "#3" etc.
It only takes more space on the servers, Luke. Allow by a use of tagging, to link to hosted images elsewhere.

Plus, I don't think filtering is the right solution. Why should anyone filter his general forum? If screenshots are concentrated ina forum, and there aren't 7 threads from each person when they want to convey an idea or a series and not just a single picture, then there's no need to filter/unfilter anything.

Personally, I think we should just be appreciative of what we've got. When I have a series of shots (the exception of the two "something different" posts aside), I host my photos on flickr and then link to them. This not only saves bandwidth on the server, but it's a small step in uncluttering the forum's main page. Personally, I think sticking multiple shots in one thread would be cumbersome: I rarely wait and see all the pics in a thread like you linked to.

Oren, any segregation of threads into channels or sub-forums is filtering of a sort; it's a matter of selecting what you want to see, and what you do not want to see. Right now, all screen shots are contained within a virtual "channel", so if you only want to see screenshots, you can go there. If you don't want to see screenshots in any other channel, there is a setting that should allow you to do so.

The issue I have with tagging is that I don't have the ability to validate the images' content or their format. With that said, since we now have the ability to nuke individual posts I may consider adding this feature in the future.

No indication of un-appreciating what we have.
Luke, I hope you did not get the feeling I was implying anything like that - I do think the DVA site and Forum is beautifully designed and extra-usable. Luke and other have done great work, and as a staff member of VATIL I do know what it takes out of you personal life - to contribute so much to a virtual organization.
Just making suggestions...

Luke, I'm clearly missing something because I can't seem to view no screen shots. When I look through the channels, I do see a separate one with screenshots but I guess my question was is there away to like look at "General Discussion" without seeing screenshots. It seems a lot screen shots end up in the general discussion channel, which, as i understand it, just reflect a pilot designating that as the channel.

I have to get back to this.
I look in the forum and I see 5 posts by Manuel Rivera.
Atlanta to new your 1/5, atlanta to new york 2/5 etc.
Obviously - they guy wants to tell us something. he puts on several pictures from the same flight, he has a theme. But he needs 5 posts to do it.
And if people look at them, they need to open five different threads to get the whole idea. And if they respond, where should they? On thread 1? on thread 5? And if people respond to differen t threads, then they are not in the correct order anymore in the forum.
Wouldn't it be better for everyone if they were simply in the same thread?

I can see your point about the grouping of shorts Oren. It would be much easier to group related shots together without creating a lot of threads. Plus, the original poster could see all of the responses to the pictures in one thread instead of checking how ever many. Someone could post 'My flight, ATL-JFK" instead of 1-XX as seperate threads which would take up much less space thread wise when listing out all of the threads. This might also keep other topics towards the top of the list as opposed to being knocked down by picture threads of the same theme. I belive that this is a topic worth exploring.

Luke, I don't think you need to allow multiple pictures uploaded to the site - from that the road to threads with 20 pictures uploaded to DVA's servers is short.
But if you can find a way to even insert an html tag or some customized link to a picture that will later show - after all the signatures are suchlinked images, aren't they?

I know some forums let you do " [/img] URL TO IMAGE [/img]" tag to add pics in responses, you do not have to have the pictures uploaded to the server with the forum on it to view the pics.

Programming what you describe isn't difficult, except that by default I programmed the cooler code to escape out HTML. I am paranoid and do not wish to give someone the ability to inline malicious stuff inside cooler posts.

Build 98 introduces multiple image linking; I'll give it a try.

what i do is when i have a series... i put the best pic on the wc, and then the rest in the image library. people look in the image library a lot and its a good place to put multiple pics

Another suggestion:
Add a field for text description of each photo.
Attach that above the picture line, and have a space between that and the next picture.
So you have it like that:
<p>TEXT DESCRIPTION<BR><img src="http://blahblah.com/image.jpg"></p>
This way people can tell us what we see ineach picture istead of just one message at the bottom of all pictures.
