Luke, or anyone else who as an actual idea of the issues involved,
What are the differences in the aircraft formats for FSX from FS9?

By and large, FS9 and FS2002 aircraft work without modification in FSX. I notice that FS9 has a new texture format, but beyond that they seem the same. Panels, on the other hand, are a totally different story.
Cheers!

What's the difference there?
My old system is fairly incapable of running FSX, hence the questions.

One major difference that I noticed, as Luke touched on, was the way textures/graphics & effects are rendered. I have successfully brought over several FS2004 add-on aircraft to FSX. One thing I really needed to change was the effects in the aircrafts .cfg file. It looks like FS2004 effects (like the NAV, strobe, and beacon lights) are not compatable with FSX. So, you'll have to edit the .cfg file so it 'points' to the new FSX effects. Other than that I have had no major issues (other than poor frame rates).
EDIT: Dreamfleet 727.....it works...however, having odd panel issues (one panel overlapping another & can't seem to pull all the panels up). Haven't quit figured it out. I imagine there must be something within the aircrafts .cfg file for panel issues, but I am no expert.

As far as I understand it the problem with fs9 panels in FSX is in FSX ALL gauges MUST be digitally signed and as fs9 gauges arent they wont work.

They don't have to be digitally signed. If they're not, FSX gives you a dialog with the option to trust the non-digitally signed gauge. The big issue with gauges is that FS98 and before gauges are no longer supported.

So that means that they will have to kinda create a whole new types of gauges compatible with FSX for each panel, and the compatible ones already to just leave em like that? i'm just saying because if we could get like an expert on that stuff to figure out what do we have to do to make the addons compatible...unless another easy way contacting the people that actually made the game lol asking them if they're is a way to modify or whatever to make it compatible.
Cheers Deltamaniacs!

too much work to add all of that stuff for FSX.. I am staying with 2004 for a while because I have no issue and wont have to worry about change graphics or tweaking panels and stuff. FSX is just not ready for the online community just yet.

If you think Panels are an Issue, Try Extracting the BGL Files, Convert them to XML files Redo the XML, Recompile to a BGL file and try to get all the darn Add on sceneries to line up correctly, I think I would rather have your headache now Luke

I bought a FS9 Piper Archer II that had a "FSX patch included". As far as I can tell all the patch did was copy the files into the proper folder. When I try flying the plane all external views look great, but ALL gauges are blank.
I have the Deluxe version of FSX so I have the SDK as well (including SP1 to the SDK). If I had an idea of what I was doing I'm sure I could get the gauges working on my own. There's a real nice document in the SDK on how to make your own gauges, but nothing in there on how to fix other people's mistakes.

I wonder if FSPAnel studio will convert from FS9 to FSX. I haven't downloaded the latest FSP to see since I don't use FSX.

I had to get rid of my fleet installer 757s and 767s because when selecting them on the fsx menu, dozens of dialogue boxes would appear with error messages. The only addons working for me are the CRJ-200 (from AVSIM) and the 737-700/800/900 (Fleet installer 737-Next Generation)

Those "error messages" are just warnings - usually related to the gauges that are included with those planes. Just accept them the first time and then it will ask if you always want to trust that gauge file and you say "Yes". FSX won't bug you again about them.
By the way, I solved that problem I had with the FS9 Archer II model. The FSX patch never copied the gauge .DLLs and .CAB files to the Gauge directory. Once I manually moved them, the gauges worked correctly (after I acknowledged about four of the above mentioned "error messages" and told FSX to always trust them).

You know, RE: the guage warning popups, I know I read somewhere that you can add a line to FSX.cfg to make it not ask every time...I wish I remembered where it was. I'm sure a Google search would work well, but it's 3AM and I have Guard Drill at 6 AM. ewe....this is gonna be ugly.
