There are still a handful of Delta Aircraft that are still painted in the NC colors. For example this photo is from January of this year http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1177783/L/ As stated above it does take some time to repaint aircraft, even virtual ones. Try doing a search on avsim.com or flightsim.com. You may be able to find some on there.

I was in Atlanta just last week and I only saw three birds in the 2007 colors for my 3 hour layover. About half the fleet will be done in about 2 years. Delta stated in a press release that they wanted the entire fleet to be repainted in 4; we'll see.

I am not a huge fan of the new colors. It seems all major airlines are choosing the same design when going with a new paint job. United, US Airways, jetBlue, and now Delta all have white bodies with a blue underbelly, blue engines and blue on most of the tail.

I kinda like the tail - it's graphic. The widget is a bit too stiff and rigid though. (looks like the CITGO gas triangle at 7-11's) ....And the DELTA letters look temporary, like a last minute attempt to cover something up, like when they took over Western Airlines. Even handpainted letters by a mechanic with a house brush would be more interesting....something unique to every plane!!! lol.

Simple reason. White paint is cheap, and when you have a large fleet...Why do you think AA did the bare metal thingy. Polish is even cheaper!

Bare metal wasn't bare. I read it had to be painted with a several clear coats to protect from corrosion. -There is no such thing as a free lunch.

American definitely has a distinctive look. I love their scheme for some reason. But you're right it's not always as simple as it looks, I'm betting they might have saved SOME money but not as much as people might think.

Actually, AA didn't get to use just clear coats because EVERY aircraft has a layer of green corrosion protective paint. so AA would have had to paint that silver on to there over that green unless they took the risk of corrosion and took the green off.

the new delta colors look to genaric, and yes the widget looks too much like the "Citgo" logo and i dont know if anyone has noticed but the font is REALLY CLOSE to the font that "Delta Faucets" has, but thats just my thoughts. I think the Wavy Gravy was the best on a crj, 777, and 738, the NC was best on the 767 and 757 the OC was the best on the 727. But once the NNNC is released on the 737, with winglets it will look pretty amazing.

Hey Monty, Isn't Plagerism coppying somene elses writing? I always thought copying a "font" or "logo" had to do with coppright laws. I have a freind whose a lawyer and he says not all fonts copyrighted, theres a trucking copy with the same font as "Fender Guitars." Please correct me if im wrong.

Weston, you are right, most "fonts" or lettering as we used to call it in the old days doesn't have a copyrite, it is in the public domain. I just think D E L T A could have been a lot more creative in their choice of letter style. For what they must have paid for this new livery design, I'm sure they could have paid an artist to come up with a letter style unique to Delta that would compliment and add to the Delta "Brand." Think of Pan Am. Those unique letters just said... "PAN AM". It was their brand and they never needed to change them. Pan Am's globe (their widget) never changed for years either. They had a good brand image. Pan Am updated with their "Billboard" livery, but kept the letters and globe the same. Too bad their gone.
I used "Plagerism" in the broad sense of using or taking someone else's idea or concept and making it their own. Yes, the word "plagerism" is used most often in the literary context. I guess I could have said they "stole" or "copied", but it's really all the same thing.
Just because Delta is a legacy airline doesn't mean they have to be toooooo conservative. As I said earlier, I do like the way they put the widget on the tail. I like the graphic quality.

I personaly like the new graphics. It looks modernized compared with other planes. However the NNC tail paint did look a little cooler and more catchy. Espeacially when your at atlanta and all those tails are sticking out at thier gates. lol.

I'm starting to loose count how many NNN's come before the C.....and how long before the next N will come? Delta changes livery colors like underwear! At least it's not the U.S. Navy's battle ship grey like United's former mistake. (...and NorthWest)
