Just a quick question: is there anyone out there who wants to pursue a career in being a fighter pilot, like ME, and go to the AFA?
Just for the record, I am part of DVA because I love to fly as a hobby and a passion, in case any of you people are wondering.

Might do AFROTC at Alabama. I need to find out if I can pass the military flight physical though.

I do AFJROTC and CAP now. Derek, if you have any athletic ability at all, it should be no problem. I think the requirements are 1.5 miles in under 15 or so minutes, and a few push ups. If you can do that your set for the physical part. The flight physical is the same as the FAA as far as I know. However, they do have certain height requirements.
By the way, I have no intention of going to the Academy. I just do AFJROTC and CAP for scholarships and flying. Plus, I like the military discipline it teaches.

Terrel,
Many colleges have AFROTC programs. Each program has a certain amount of slots for Pilots, Engineers, Doc's etc. Basically, if you can get the grades and are good physically, you'll get a pilot slot. I highly encourage ROTC even if you do not want to go into the service. It looks really good on resumes, and it's a great experience.
Simply, it's an AFA away from the AFA. Without the getting up at 5 part.

Steve, it has nothing to do with my athletic ability. I'm more concerned about vision and past injuries that could be problematic. I would love to fly in the military, but I also don't want to spend four years of my life being forced to do a job that is sidetracking me from my ultimate goal. If I couldn't fly for the military then I would rather be a soldier (kind of hard to do in the Air Force), and I have no interest in flying choppers (sorry Army guys).

Derek, have you had lasik? If so, I'm afraid you are out of the picture. The Air Force will want to do it themselves, so that they know it is a correct procedure.
You can talk to an AF recruiter about past injuries.

Terrell, 20/20 corrected 20/40 uncorrected so they say. However, I don't really think those requirements have been updated since Vietnam. More and more people in this world are going to develop eye problems just because the gene pool is rapidly growing, therefore I believe that the military is going to have to reconsider things in the future.

United States Air Force is great, but like I have said too many time, don't go into the Air Force just for the flight training, do it because you love to fly and you WANT to serve your country, the free training and the great resume is just a bonus.
I am personally looking into the Canadian Air Force as an option. Being in Michigan, Canada has been like a second home for me, seems like I am always there for something. Not to mention the quality of the training at the Canadian Air Force or any of the flight schools in Canada is some of the best you can receive anywhere in the world. I've also heard great things about her Majesties Royal Air Force, not to mention how great the European economy for pilots is right now, and the need for pilots is only expected to grow. My two cents.

Steve,
I actually looked into the RAF at one point as well, and even the German Luftwaffe. Both are extremely difficult to get into if you're not ethnically British, or German. Just my two cents.

Not unless you want to serve in the Air Force. If you don't, then no it's not.
From what you said, I would sure appreciate it if you did not "use" the Air Force.

Cooper & Terrell --
If you have any questions on the AF, please feel free to email me or find me on ACARS to chat. I have about 18 yrs flying in the AF. I went to ENJJPT, was an instructor in T-37s for 3 years at AF pilot training and now find myself back teaching at the joint service pilot training (Navy, AF, Marines, CG) in the T-34/soon to be T-6. I'm sure I can answer/find the answer to any of your questions or just give you a feel for the life in the AF. Just let me know.
Cheers

Any questions about the Air Force and i'll help ya out. I am an Air Traffic Controller in the USAF. I talk to Officers all the time, so if i dont know i can find out. I considered becoming an officer, but i'm 26 now and will probably do any flight training i decide to do in the Civilian world. well thanks guys for the offers, anything would help but im to the point where i know just about everything that addmissions is looking for, and i am acomplishing those tasks. if anything, you could help me get an advantage with my congressman, Norm Dicks :). I will have my PPL done before i graduate high school, so that should give me a boost, as well as C.A.P. I even took a trip down to Colorado Springs last summer and had a chat with some addmissions Lt's.

Cooper,
Me the same way. I know everything I need to know. I have excellent grades, I am volunteering like crazy (community service as well), and I just have to figure out how to write my letter to the congressman. I would need your help, Joshua, on that one. I am in the Air Rangers group here a couple miles away from Ft. Braag. By the way, I too, am in 10th grade, and I am going to major in aeronautical engineering. Maybe I will see you there.

Whoops did I say that
The Air Force academy is "supposedly" extremely hard to get through and pass. If you do good in school, and don't screw around outside of school (i.e, get arrested, drugs, MIP) you should have it pretty well set. If you are looking for anything extra, see if your local fire department has a cadet program, trust me it will help you in the long run, firefighters are valuable assets at any company, especially if you have EMS qualifications.

Same here, Nicholas. I, although, am in the Air Rangers. C.A.P. and the Air Rangers basically teaches you the same thing, however.
