David,
You won't believe how happy I am to see this post and that picture. I just today received the EVGA GTX 470. It is being installed this coming Sunday into my new PC build which I wrote about here:
http://www.deltava.org/thread.do?id=0x17cca
Hope this card lives up the expectation cause I dropped a whole lot of overtime money into this rig...LOL.

Chris, FSX is CPU dependend and your GTX580 does not have much influence on it, its your CPU, I am running an i7-980X at 4.41Ghz and GTX570 and cant max it out either, you are not alone mate ;-) cheers
And always remember: software dictates hardware

Is your 980x overclocked? I read somewhere that FSX doesnt use the hyperthreading in the i7s and I was thinking of o/cing my rig...

that's correct, i made the mistake in buying the hexa core before working with my FSX specialist.
Now, quad core is the best thats right, hyper threading is not supported neither is SLI, the game is just too old ;-)
though luck, so I am upgrading to the new Z68 board and i7 2600K ;-) lets rock!!

I got fed up with my comp not being able to run FSX and all my addons so I went to FS9... Other than the jetways not moving and the airports being a little low in the graffix dept, I like it more... REX really enhances FS9 and my framerates are thru the roof... None of the geeks in my area are FSX knowledgable so im pretty much stuck with what I already know...

I'm always seeing pilots making frame rate comparisons. Nobody ever mentions screen resolution/size. I have a 28" monitor running 1920x1200 (2.3M pixels) in an overclocked Q9550 (3.6mhz) with an ATI HD 5850. I average frame rates in the 20s running FSX, REX, ActiveSky, Ultimate Terrain, a bunch of payware airports and planes. If I were to go to, let's say, a 19" monitor running 1280x1024 (1.3M pixels) I'll bet my frame rate would go through the roof because my GPU has to generate each frame/image with 1 million fewer pixels. It has to be able to crank out the smaller images much faster...
...or is there a crosswind factor to my logic?

You have a great point Scott... I think most people disregard it cuz they set their res to the GPU max allowed in the sim. ( i know mine is set at max) Yet another point as to why every one has different settings...
On the note of my previous post, I reinstalled FSX on my other drive and restarted my comp after every addon install, Runs like a champ. With REX, pmdg md11, iFly 737, level d, fsdt mccarran and the venetubo updates, it is flying.. no pun intended.. 60+ at the gate with spikes over 100 and spikes over 200 in flight...
