DEVELOPMENT ISSUE #5,359 - Fuel load displayed in KGS, but loaded in LBS
Reported by Theo Langenberg (DVA12866) on 05/11/2020 07:45 ET
Assigned To Luke Kolin (DVA043)
Issue Status Fixed on 05/25/2020 16:29 ET
Issue Priority High
Airlines Delta Virtual Airlines
Security Public
Area ACARS
Issue Type Bug
Issue Description I note that the fuel loading method was changed recently. All I can do is the nominate the aircraft type. Before I do this I have already loaded fuel in FSX. Is that all that needs to be done?
Also - When I come to do the fuel loading in ACARS I get a message under the heading "Aircraft Loader" starting with " Unhandled exception has occurred in your application". I am using ACARS Build 146, installed only a few days ago.

Theo, I can't add fuel either. Please try one more time, when you get the error got to "Help" and submit an error log. I will convert this to a development issue.

I updated ACARS to V 3.4 build 147 Beta 7 and ACARS will not let me add fuel. When I start the flight I get the following error 10054 An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. I submitted my error log.

Happy days!!
When I accessed ACARS today I found the the new fangled fuel loading page was fully functional. Note: The weight of fuel in the Aircraft Loader is expressed as Kg. When given the opportunity to change fuel for each tank it's Lbs. Why??
Would it not make a lot of sense to standardise on Lbs? Most fuel calculators also use Lbs e.g. " Fuel Planner". May I suggest that all fuel weights be expressed in Lbs? In the real world this has caused confusion and the cause of out-of-fuel disasters. It is dangerous.
Fuel burn is expressed in Lbs in the ACARS Excel report. When planning the flights via FSX the units are Lbs. DVA's Aircraft Manuals also use Lbs. Inconsistency is the mother of all evil.

Sorry, I forgot to say " thank you" to the clever person who fixed this.

Firstly- a correction to my previous comments. Units in ACARS " fuel for each tank" are also Kg.
I tested the ACARS fuel loading system. I purposely did not load fuel in FSX to allow ACARS to do it's thing.
Correct fuel requirement was calculated as 17173 Lbs = 6869 Kg. It was loaded as 6866 Kg. ACARS recommended fuel quantity was shown as 5481 Kg only - i.e. 21% less?
When I checked the ACARS data on completion of the flight I found red balloons starting 1 hour into the flight – Zero fuel. Note – I completed the flight.
The ACARS data showed 6844 before the engines were started. It appears that between Aircraft Loading and transfer of the fuel into the aircraft the units of measure are changed from Kg to Lbs without the mathematical conversion.
I also found that there is a discrepancy between the DVA flight report and ACARS.
e.g. Fuel on take-off: DVA = 2820 Kg = 7050 Lbs, ACARS = 6232 Lbs.
I have screen shots of the above information.
My suggestion: Do not use ACARS fuel loading.

My suggestion: send me the ACARS log. I'm not sure what exactly the issue is. Are you saying that ACARS did not load what you asked it to in the fuel planner?
Luke Kolin (DVA043)

ACARS recommends fuel loads based on the aircraft profile; you are free to update as you wish and you are ultimately responsible for the fuel load. Where does the 2820 KG come from?

You've actually found a bug - we're not converting totalFule from KGS to LBS before loading on the aircraft.

Fixed in Build 148 Beta 1.

I am duly impressed. Job well done. I shall install the new version.

This should be completely resolved in Build 148 Beta 2.
